Active Inhibition

Active Inhibition is the term psychologists use to describe the mental filter which prevents all of our memories from flooding our attention, we only recall the memories we need when the right ques trigger it rather than at will like a filing cabinet. This is very similar to our Affective Niche which filters what we pay attention to.

This is important when thinking about the Zettelkasten Slip-box concept, we're trying to make connections to other topics because they will serve as triggers to circumvent our active Inhibition in the future. If we do this we'll we'll be able to surface these memories when exploring various topics through our slip box in a way we couldn't do in our brain because of Active Inhibition.
