Zettelkasten is German for Slipbox, it is a note-taking method for capturing your thinking in a non-linear way. This approach to note taking creates an environment which works with our brain rather than against it, we're able to write WHILE comparing and contrasting in a way that mirrors our brain.
When using Zettelkasten to take notes, we are curating triggers for future points at which we think Recalling Information will be useful. This is why the connections in our Zettlekasten are so important! The Slip-Box is about supplementing your brain by documenting triggers for when you want to remember something. The connections are the entire point of the system, you're telling yourself "I want to remember this next time I'm thinking about this other topic."
This method of note-taking feels much more natural to me, though it was hard for me to build a habit of. When building a slip-box you are making connections between thoughts at a pretty fine level of granularity.
