We are Prone to Errors in Intuitive Reasoning
Stems From:
System 1 Automatic BrainNote:
Because our System 1 Automatic Brain is vulnerable to errors of intuitive thought we rely on our System 2 Effortful Brain to intervene. But it isn't possible to be perpetually vigilant to prevent this so the best option is compromise, learn to distinguish when it's important to bring extra scrutiny of our thoughts.
Because of this, System 1 constructs a story and our System 2 is primed to believe it, which is great for metabolic efficiency but can result in errors of intuitive reasoning.
