Our System 2 Effortful Brain is the form of attention that requires focus. Solving advanced math or navigating difficult traffic. System two can blind system 1 if you are very focused, like when I don't hear my partner while we watch TV.
System two is in charge of self control, when we see something unusual that is hard to ignore system 2 takes over to control our behavior (e.g. an oddly dressed person). System 2 is the consciousness that we refer to as "I".

System 2 is activated when an event is detected that violates the model of the world that System 1 maintains.
