Mental Models

πŸ“–Concept#note/concept

Mental models are different lenses you can put on the events of the world and experiences in life. I like to think about it like being at the eye doctor and testing different prescriptions (e.g. Which is clearer: 1 or 2?). You should always be testing which lens provides the clearest view of the world.

I don't read to collect facts, I read to collect mental models. If I retain zero specifics from a book but I have a new frame of reference to analyze the world with them I've gained immense value from the book. This not only helps me to avoid deception but it enables empathy by learning to understand the limited lenses others are applying to their world.
