To truly understand something it should become part of our intuitive system 1 worldview

Daniel Kahneman shows us that System 1 maintains it's own understanding of the world and seems to form a coherent world aligned with that worldview. As we learn new things I believe that the ultimate demonstration of that knowledge is when it surfaces during system 1 thinking.

As an example, our system 2 can analytically know that poverty is more often inflicted as a result of generational cycles, failed oppressive institutions and learned behaviors rather than individual choices. However, when we encounter the poor our intuitive judgement doesn't match this understanding. To truly understand it would be to have that intuitive judgement align with our analytical assessment. In this context it would only come from working closely with these communities.
